BioFilm’s fast dissolving and absorbable film delivery mechanism not only facilitates the development of innovative new products, but also represents a significant opportunity for our commercial partners to extend their existing brand products using our film technology. Film products can treat a wide range of conditions simply and effectively through oral administration or topical application. Products currently in tablet, capsule, spray or tincture form are normally suited for development into a dissolving film format. Depending on the specific active ingredient, the upper volume limit for the active in a standard oral strip is around 30mg – 60mg. In typical applications, the dosage can be greater and is dependent upon the thickness of the film.

ExperienceSince 2004, BioFilm has successfully developed two consumer medical devices for commercial partners in Europe. - The first was a Class 1 medical device targeted at the consumer First Aid wound care market. We developed a fast dissolving strip incorporating the client’s haemostatic agent which acts to coagulate the blood on contact, thus promoting effective and rapid healing.
- The second was a Class 2a medical device targeted at the consumer anti-snoring market. A fast dissolving strip incorporating our partner’s anti-snoring agent is placed on the tongue where it dissolves releasing the active ingredient. This then coats the back of the throat and reduces snoring. At the 2006 annual Marketing Awards, this product received the top prize in the ‘Most Innovative New Product” category.
